2012 IDSA Award Winners Announced

At the 2012 International Conference in Boston, IDSA handed out its IDSA Awards. In January, IDSA invited all members in good standing to champion candidates for the Awards. Once all of the nominations were received, the 2012 Awards Committee reviewed the nominations and sent their recommendations to the Board of Directors for final approval.

IDSA.org Victim of Datacenter Outage

On Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, the datacenter that houses IDSA’s dedicated server failed, causing idsa.org to disappear for over nine hours.

A representative of our hosting company stated that the new datacenter had not been affected by fire, flood or power outage. The datacenter would have detected and compensated for these within a few hours, if not sooner. Instead, the issue was related to routing. They, of course, apologized profusely.

This move has given us more space and significantly lowered our costs and is in a more people- friendly location for our staff and visitors.

A Merry Competition

The IDSA holiday door decorating contest was on, and though the real creative talent lies with our membership, the staff didn’t do too badly.

 

Each staff member decorated the door to his or her office. And the best, most festive, fun and creative door was determined by an impartial committee made up of people from neighboring offices.

China’s Creative Design Week 2012 brought design experts together from across the globe. It was evident that, in China, design continues to play an increasingly weighty role in manufacturing. China wants to increase the impact of design on the success of goods manufactured in China and to further sustainable manufacturing processes.

The events of the week provided excellent venues for IDSA to promote the value of design, intellectual property and international property rights to benefit members of IDSA and the design profession at large.

Sang Lee Becomes a US Citizen

Congratulations to Sang Lee, IDSA’s program coordinator, who was sworn in on April 2 as a US citizen in a ceremony at an Alexandria VA high school. Sang and his family came from South Korea to live in the United States when he was 10. He decided recently to become a citizen of the US. “I’ve always wanted to be a citizen of the US, because I knew it would create more opportunities for me,” he said.

IDSA Hires a Director of Administrative Operations

Native New Yorker Jerry Layne joins IDSA in the new position of director of administrative operations. His focus in this position will be on human resources, organizational development and strengthening IDSA’s internal policies and procedures. He’s a great fit for this role with his recent HR and administrative management experience at the Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA), a trade association that assists small and mid-sized specialty chemical manufacturers. Before SOCMA, he worked for AMC Theaters as a general manager and manager.
