Jorge Alvarez has his bachelor’s in software engineering from the University of Phoenix and is getting his master’s in IT management from Virginia Tech. At IDSA he’s helping with database management and whatever other IT problems come up. In his free time, he likes to watch Netflix and practice his computer programming skills. Fun fact: He was in the Army for four years as a mortarman.
In early July, IDSA added Allan Gordon, an association professional with deep experience in membership and chapter services, and project management, to the team in Herndon, VA to serve as our director of membership.
Allan grew up in Trinidad before moving to New York City with his family late in his teenage years. He completed a bachelor of science in psychology at the City University of New York before embarking on a career in association management.
Karen Berube is no stranger to IDSA. After seven years as both a student and professional member, she joined the staff in the early 1990s as a program manager. When she launched her own firm, IDSA became a valuable client proving extensive leadership to our flagship publication, Innovation. Early this September, Karen rejoined IDSA’s full-time staff taking on a more prominent leadership role as our Sr. Creative Director.
She sings opera. She acts. She runs a business. And, now, Nicole Williams is responsible for the maintenance and integrity of IDSA’s Association Management System (AMS) database.
Nicole has accumulated 12 years of administrative experience working for companies like Prudential, ExxonMobil, Wells Fargo and, most recently, Lee Hecht Harrison. At IDSA, she’ll manage the database that stores all of our membership data and other records relating to programs like IDEA.
Following a search for someone to help define a consistent graphic style to refresh, refine and refocus all of IDSA's outbound materials and touch points with membership, we've hired Jason Tropp, a designer’s designer, as our new Sr. Designer.
Jason’s design journey has followed a tidy chronology. He took drafting classes for two years at a high school in central Virginia and intended to pursue a career in architecture before discovering industrial design. From there he was accepted into the Industrial Design program at Virginia Tech.
IDSA Executive Director Daniel Martinage, CAE continued his tour of college campuses with a two-day visit in November to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where he met with students, sat in on classes taught by John McCabe and observed a portfolio review.
At the end of 2013, Beverly Kalamba joined the IDSA staff to support the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) program. Early in 2014, her role has expanded to exploit her background in events management.
Officially listed as IDSA’s Program and Conference Coordinator, Beverly is the point of contact for all previous and prospective IDEA participants where she assists those who have inquiries about how to participate in the awards program. She also helps conduct research on potential catering, locations and travel accommodations relating to IDSA’s conferences.
Lisa Endress, who joined IDSA as an intern in June 2013 fresh out of Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, PA, recently made the leap to the Society’s full-time staff as Marketing Coordinator.
Her core responsibilities include supporting all marketing efforts by assisting with all informational and email outreach, improving social media presence on LinkedIn and writing copy for all email blasts.
Two hats fit Shingai Marandure very well: artist and businessman. That makes him uniquely empathic to the desires and goals of the average IDSA member.
Shingai (pronounced: SHIN-GUY) recently joined the IDSA team as member relations coordinator. He serves as the first point of contact for our membership department. He also performs administrative and operational functions, including assisting with member dues collection process, managing SCARFs for weekly review and maintaining the Chapter and Section Leadership roster.
Katrina Kona, a veteran of association advertising and sales, recently joined IDSA to manage all facets of our event and webinar sponsorship programs, as well as online advertising relating to our digital newsletters and IDSA.org.
